The South Australian Community Health Research Unit (SACHRU) contributes to improving the health of South Australian communities through assisting primary health care workers to undertake quality research and evaluation and conducting research to improve the effectiveness of primary health care.

SACHRU provides support to a range of groups including community health services, government departments administering grants programs, community organisations, and others conducting primary health care projects, such as hospitals, and non-government organisations.

Core funding is provided by the Department of Health, and we attract funds from other sources for projects, consultancies, conferences and workshops. SACHRU is part of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Flinders Univerisity and administered through the Department of Public Health.

SACHRU is co-located with the Department of Public Health, Flinders University and collaborates with them on joint projects and workforce training and development. The Unit's close links with the Faculty of Health Sciences, Flinders University are strengthened through the Director, Professor Fran Baum, who is Director of SACHRU and Head of the Department of Public Health. A number of SACHRU Research Officers also have academic status within the School of Medicine in the Faculty.

SACHRU has core research and administrative staff, with additional staff funded by research grants. SACHRU is also supported by an Advisory Committee.
